Autism Friendly Alabama

Acceptance - Accessibility - Inclusion

The purpose of AFA is to improve community environments to foster inclusion for persons with developmental disabilities.

The Autism Society of Alabama Autism Friendly Initiative focuses on awareness and education for business owners to create Autism Friendly Community Environments in Alabama. Businesses and community locations will be trained and educated to create:

1) Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) friendly inviting environments,
2) tolerable sensory settings,
3) ASD accommodations and

4) ASD assistance.

5) Employment for individuals with ASD.

Families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and related developmental disabilities often avoid community outings due to anxiety related to their loved one’s social behavior. This project seeks to raise awareness about this obstacle and to create ASD inviting community settings.
