About ASA

Since 1994, the Autism Society of Alabama (ASA) has served and advocated for Alabama's residents affected by ASD.

Your fundraising efforts help provide the following programs statewide for individuals and families affected by autism that now affects 1 in every 68 people.

Mission: To improve services for individuals affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder in the state through education and advocacy.

State level advocacy and representation

Concerns are voiced directly to state policy makers. ASA maintains a seat on the Alabama Interagency Autism Coordinating Council, and is actively involved with the Special Projects Committee.

Information and referral

ASA is the state's leading source for information on autism. ASA maintains a current list of service providers, as well as, an information and referral hotline. Click here.

Networking Groups

ASA has a statewide network of over 30 groups that create community support and awareness through monthly meetings and family adventures. ASA provides these groups with resources, such as sensory movies, workshops and respite, to aid families who are caring for an individual on the autism spectrum. Conferences and Seminars

Education is essential to developing quality services. ASA hosts regional seminars throughout the year that provide education and training for local communities. ASA also offers scholarships for parents and professionals to attend autism specific conferences and co-hosts the Alabama Autism Conference.

Programs

Annually, the ASA Board of Directors, staff and supporters identify and develop (3) signature programs. The programs are typically continued after their signature year and become ongoing ASA programs. Click here for the new initiatives.

Family Camps

Camp Frog

In partnership with Easter Seals, ASA offers weekend family camps at Camp ASCCA. Zip lining, canoeing, horseback riding, and many other recreational activities create a camp experience that parents report to be invaluable.

Awareness

Your fundraising efforts help provide the following programs statewide for individuals and families affected by autism that now affects 1 in every 68 people.

During Autism Awareness Month, ASA hosts Walks for Autism, 5K's and autism awareness nights at community venues statewide. ASA's mascots, Jerry and Jackie the FROGS, travel the state throughout the year to bring autism awareness to local schools. ASA hosts an annual Autism Matters Legislative Day at the state capitol bringing autism issues directly to our policy makers. ASA also presents information at local health fairs and service organizations to increase community awareness and involvement.
